Separate from volunteering inside the Sanctuary fence, there is always a need for 'backyard bird monitors'. As birds thrive within the relative safety of the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary, we anticipate some will spill into the surrounding areas of Nelson, Stoke and Richmond. Garden surveys can provide useful evidence of a halo effect around the sanctuary.
Whakatu Group Riding for the Disabled Incorporated supported by Volunteer Nelson
The Whakatu Riding for the Disabled Group (WRDA) is situated in the beautiful Brook Valley close to Nelson City. We provide goal based horse riding activities, that increase the abilities, strength and confidence of people with various challenges. Our focus is to make a positive difference and our vision is to reach more riders and to change more lives. We have two qualified coaches and rely on a team of valued volunteers to support our riders.
Community Cat Coalition Inc.
Volunteers visit some community cat feeding sites Onehunga on their rostered day or days. Your visits will mean the world to these cats - although shy, they will always be very pleased to see you!
Community Cat Coalition Inc.
Volunteers visit this small all-desexed Orakei colony (maybe 6-8 cats?) on their rostered days, feed them and provide fresh water, maybe tidy their very well organised feeding areas a little if needed. Your visits will mean the world to these cats - although shy, they will always be very pleased to see you!
Community Cat Coalition Inc.
Volunteers visit some community cat feeding sites along a single road in Penrose, near the Stadium, on Monday or Saturday. Your visits will mean the world to these cats - although shy, they will always be very pleased to see you!
