The New Zealand National Refugee Youth Council (NZNRYC) is the only national refugee-background youth-led NGO in New Zealand. We are by refugee background youth for refugee background youth. We engage, advocate, and empower refugee background youth across all refugee resettlement locations. We do this so refugee background youth can have a meaningful and successful life in Aotearoa. Our mission is to foster an inclusive and supportive environment that enables refugee background youth to thrive, voice their concerns, and contribute to shaping policies and initiatives that promote their rights and wellbeing. We strive to bridge the gap between refugee communities and decision-makers, advocating for equitable access to education, healthcare, employment, and social integration opportunities. Through collaboration, advocacy, and education, we aim to create a society where refugee background youth can fully embrace their potential, celebrate their diverse backgrounds, and actively participate in building a more inclusive and compassionate New Zealand. NZNRYC is a charitable trust governed by a board of refugee background youth across Aotearoa. Our activities are designed and led by refugee background youth through a series of engagements and consultations with youth from different parts of the country. The programmes we run are based on strengths-based youth development approaches and are underpinned by our four values of courage, drive, empathy, and commitment.
