We are looking for an experienced fundraising and grants volunteer to help us secure and grow the resources needed to sustain, strengthen and expand our work alongside former refugee and migrant communities across Aotearoa New Zealand. Sustainable funding is essential to maintaining our core operations and existing programmes, while also enabling us to develop and deliver new initiatives in response to needs identified with the communities we work alongside. This includes securing ongoing operational funding as well as funding that can help us turn new ideas and opportunities into action and reach and support more people.
Working closely with our Chief Executive, you will bring your fundraising experience to help identify funding opportunities, strengthen grant and donor proposals, and contribute to a more strategic, diverse and sustainable funding base. Your expertise can have a direct impact on our ability to sustain our work, grow our programmes and continue creating opportunities, strengthening belonging and supporting former refugee and migrant communities to thrive.
What you will do
Depending on your experience and interests, you may:
- Identify and research potential funding opportunities, including grants, trusts, foundations and donors.
- Assess funding opportunities for their suitability and alignment with our work.
- Support the development of compelling grant applications and donor proposals.
- Help communicate the purpose, impact and outcomes of our programmes to potential funders.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a fundraising plan.
- Help identify opportunities to diversify and strengthen our funding base.
- Support relationship-building with existing and potential funders and donors.
- Work with the Chief Executive and team to gather the information and evidence needed for funding applications.
What we are looking for
You will have:
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, funding applications or donor development.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to develop clear and compelling funding proposals.
- Good research skills and the ability to identify and assess potential funding opportunities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Good organisation and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- An interest in using your skills to contribute to positive outcomes for former refugee and migrant communities.
Experience
This role is best suited to someone who already has relevant experience in fundraising, grant applications, donor development or a closely related area and can confidently contribute their expertise from the outset.
Experience within the Aotearoa New Zealand not-for-profit or community sector would be an advantage, as would financial or budgeting experience.
Previous experience in Aotearoa New Zealand is not required. We welcome relevant professional and voluntary experience gained overseas.
People from former refugee and migrant backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
What you will gain
- The opportunity to use your professional skills to directly support the growth and sustainability of a community-focused organisation.
- A meaningful connection between your fundraising contribution and programmes supporting former refugee and migrant communities.
- The opportunity to contribute at a strategic level and work closely with our Chief Executive.
- Experience and insight into fundraising and programme development within an Aotearoa New Zealand not-for-profit organisation.
- The opportunity to help shape our fundraising approach and identify new opportunities for sustainable growth.
- Flexible volunteering that can work around your other commitments.
Commitment
- Ideally six months or longer.
- Around 2–4 hours per week, with flexibility around when the work is undertaken.
- Work from home or from our Wellington CBD office.
- Willingness to meet regularly with the Chief Executive, online or in person.
- Ability to complete NZ Police Vetting.
Support
Full induction and ongoing support will be provided. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and relevant team members, with access to the programme information and organisational context needed to support your work.
