About Big Brothers Big Sisters

BBBSNZ is part of a global mentoring movement that has been helping young people reach their potential for more than 100 years, with Big Brothers Big Sisters operating in Aotearoa since 1997.

Our mahi is centred on professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships between young people and caring adult volunteers. Mentors give around one hour a week to spend time with their young person, providing a consistent, positive and trusted relationship that can make a lasting difference.

Across Aotearoa, our branches support more than 1,150 tamariki and rangatahi each year, helping young people build confidence, develop positive relationships and realise their potential.

About the role

Working alongside the Communications Manager, you may help with things such as:

  • Supporting Google Workspace and digital administration
  • Assisting with funding applications and accountability reports
  • Researching funding opportunities
  • Drafting and proofreading written content
  • Helping prepare social media and marketing content
  • Creating or updating simple graphics and promotional material
  • Updating spreadsheets, databases and records
  • Supporting general communications and administration projects
  • Helping with one-off projects and events
  • Learning new systems and skills as you go
  • Xero reconcilliaitons

The role can be shaped around your existing skills and the areas you would like to develop. You might be an experienced administrator wanting to use your skills for a good cause, a creative person wanting to build a portfolio, or someone looking to gain practical experience in communications, fundraising or the not-for-profit sector.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently
  • Comfortable working remotely
  • A good communicator who isn't afraid to ask questions

  • Able to commit to up to 10 hours per week, depending on availability
  • Available for a weekly catch-up with the Communications Manager
  • Passionate about making a positive contribution to the lives of young people

You don't need to be an expert. A willingness to learn, a positive attitude and a commitment to getting things done are just as important.

What you'll gain

This is an opportunity to gain practical experience across communications, administration, fundraising, graphic design, digital systems and the not-for-profit sector, while contributing to an organisation making a real difference in the lives of young people across Aotearoa.

You'll work directly alongside the Communications Manager and have the opportunity to develop new skills, take ownership of projects and see the impact of your contribution.
