Are you passionate about creating a welcoming space where people feel seen, heard, and valued? Nelson Women's Centre is looking for compassionate volunteers to join our team as Peer Support / Lounge Hosts.
About Nelson Women's Centre
For more than 50 years, Nelson Women's Centre has been a place of connection, advocacy, and support for our community. Beginning as Women in Nelson (WIN) in the early 1970s, our organisation has championed initiatives that have strengthened the lives of women and whānau across the region. Today, we continue that legacy by providing a safe, inclusive community hub where women and non-binary people can access support, build meaningful connections, and thrive.
In this rewarding role, you'll help create a warm, inclusive environment within our community hub for women and non-binary people. Many of those accessing our services may be experiencing vulnerability, isolation, or challenging life circumstances, and a genuine smile, a listening ear, or a shared cuppa can make a meaningful difference.
As a Peer Support / Lounge Host, you will:
- Welcome visitors and help them feel comfortable, safe, and included.
- Prepare tea, coffee, and the occasional home baking for whai ora.
- Offer friendly conversation and compassionate peer support.
- Help maintain a warm, welcoming, and inclusive lounge environment.
- Recognise when someone may need additional support and connect them with Centre staff when appropriate.
We're looking for volunteers who are:
- Empathetic and compassionate.
- Open-minded and non-judgemental.
- Friendly and approachable.
- Passionate about building community and supporting others.
No formal qualifications are required—just a genuine desire to connect with people and uphold the values of manaakitanga, respect, and inclusion.
