Greenhithe Community Trust Ecology Group

Logo for Greenhithe Community Trust Ecology Group

Come and join a group of friendly locals restoring and looking after Wainoni Park. Friends of Wainoni Park meet most Thursday mornings until mid-December (we often have breaks over the school holidays, and start earlier in the hotter months, so please email us to confirm date & time if you are interested in joining the group). There are a range of tasks to suit a variety of fitness levels. This is a great opportunity to meet others while caring for Greenhithe's environment. Activities include: Releasing recently planted and established native trees from pest plants (weeds); Preparing areas for native plants; Planting native plants; Spreading mulch around native plantings; Pest control; Looking after the community edible garden; Removing rubbish from the park; Carrying out wildlife surveys; and Getting fit whilst forming new friendships. Please bring a cold drink, a sunhat, and wear shoes with a good grip. Long sleeves and trousers are recommended for some areas. Morning tea is supplied. We also have opportunities to help out on other days. Search for our Oratau Reserve, Outlook Reserve & Taihinui Historical Reserve groups. Friends of Wainoni Park is a Greenhithe Community Trust initiative. Only apply if you’re actually planning to come along — thanks!
