Role description

Youth Settlement volunteers provide help to Settlement Youth Workers for events that support refugee background young people in their settlement journey. These events provide vital opportunities for refugee background young people to build connections with others in their communities. Events may include workshops, sharing kai and sports days. Youth Settlement volunteers empower rangatahi, provide safe environments and help create spaces where young people can thrive.

As a Youth Settlement volunteer, you may also be supporting the young people to navigate everyday challenges and adapt to life in Aotearoa New Zealand. Volunteers commit to support at least two events a term for two terms or more."

Your tasks

Provide supervision for children and young people, Help create a welcoming and inclusive space for refugee-background young people through community-based activities, Support the positive development of young people that contribute to themselves, their whānau, community and world.

Volunteer requirements and training

Passion to develop and support young people in their journey, Openness to working with people from refugee backgrounds, Some understanding or experience of youth work (desirable, but not required).
