Coastguard Tautiaki Moana

Logo for Coastguard Tautiaki Moana

Volunteering for Coastguard is a team effort – requiring just as much precision and effort off the water as it does in the midst of a rescue in out by Little Barrier Island. Whether you’re an ace administrator, handy with a toolkit, a fantastic fundraiser, a brilliant bookkeeper or an accurate accountant, there’s a role for you at Coastguard Kawau.

Coastguard Kawau are looking for volunteers to make things smooth sailing on land while the rescue crew are focusing on training and call outs. If you have a few hours a week to give or just a few weekends a year, your contribution to Coastguard Kawau will support our rescue vessel crew save lives at sea – all without getting your feet wet.

As one of New Zealand's 63 Coastguard units across Aotearoa, Coastguard Kawau, maintains, and operates their own dedicated rescue vessel based out of Sandspit. These amazing volunteers respond to the call for help 24 hours a day 7 days a week across Kawau Bay, Kawau Island, Mahurangi Harbour and extending to Te Arai Point out to Little Barrier Island. Last year, Coastguard Kawau volunteers responded to 39 calls for help, and are the reason 5 people came home safely.
