Hospital Volunteer

Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi / Bay of Plenty DHB supported by Volunteering Services

Our volunteers provide a crucial service in the care of our patients/urihaumate and the support of their whānau. Our volunteers strive to provide a positive experience for our patients, whānau and staff and recognise diversity by treating all people with dignity and respect. Our volunteers contribute across many areas of the hospital; from pastoral care, welcoming guidance, Canine Pet Therapy, Music Therapy and Emergency Department support, to knitting and random acts of kindness. The contributions of volunteers are many and varied.

Volunteering strengthens community values and fosters caring and sharing through collaboration. Our volunteers know the value of contribution and are recognised and acknowledged as part of a ‘team’ dedicated to wellbeing.

Extensive training is provided to be a Hospital Volunteer including online learning, professional development and orientation. The minimum length of service as a volunteer is six months and our minimum age is 18 years.
