We ask volunteers to commit to one shift a week or fortnightly, in order to cover a roster of three four hour shifts per day (morning, afternoon and evening). Shifts vary between hospitals. In addition, due to the nature of these roles, we are only able to consider volunteers who are able to commit for a minimum of 12 months.

What experience do I need?

None - no prior experience is required. However, there are certain things that are needed to be considered and successful in these roles:

Excellent communication skills Sensitivity towards those who are sick A friendly, caring and compassionate nature A genuine interest in the well-being of others Physically fit (these roles involve a lot of walking) You must be at least 18 years of age Ultimately, we are looking for people who have an aptitude to working with a diversity of cultures that will bring passion to this crucial function within the St John FEDs, and Hospital Friends Service.
