Hapori Fruit and Veg Box Volunteer - Tahunanui (around every 4rd Thursday)
Nelson Environment Centre supported by Volunteer Nelson
We are looking for a small team of volunteers to get this programme up and running at the Nightingale Library Meeting Room and to be a weekly part of delivering fresh fruit and veggies to the local community. The Hub will operate on Thursdays from 2:45 to 6pm. We will be looking for enough people to allow for breaks and backup help so that a weekly commitment, although ideal, is not required.
Volunteers will receive a list of the day's customers. The list includes the customers name, phone, email and number of boxes ordered. When a customer arrives, they approach the volunteer and provide their name. They are then crossed off the list and directed to their crate of produce.
All the produce is in a plastic, collapsible crate delivered by The Veggie Guy. The crates of produce Each crate has the exact same fruit and veg in it.Customers bring their own bags and take the produce from 1 crate and put it in their bags. The crate is then collapsed by the volunteer and stacked away from where people are walking. Each individual crate is not heavy.
There is NO handling of money and no heavy lifting.
If you are interested in getting involved, in a project that organizes a community around food, please apply now to see if this is for you!
