The purpose of asert-Tatou Development Trust is to train young people in native plant propagation, particularly those who have a disability or are in any other way disadvantaged. The Trust facilitates the operation of Te Rito Gardens, established to support tangata whaiora and young people through a training programme which offers transferable practical and social skills while learning plant propagation methods. TRG is a safe place where trainees learn at their own pace, improving their quality of life as they learn to work together as a team of taiao kaitiaki helping to restore our natural environment. We currently grow over 30,000 eco-sourced native plants annually for restoration planting, supplying community groups, schools and Councils, supporting the recovery of integrated eco-systems, creating shelter and habitats for beneficial microorganisms, insects, birds and lizards. Our mission: Manaaki Tangata, Manaaki Whenua, Haere Whakamua (Care for the People, Care for the Land, Go Forward)
