Otematata Volunteer Fire Brigade - Volunteer with Fire and Emergency

Safe communities start with us! Give your time and get so much back in return.
Join the team of over 11,800 committed volunteers looking out for their community. We’ve got farmers, tradies, teachers, and techies. People who can fix anything, thrill-seekers, skill-seekers, office workers and all sorts of community-minded locals who keep us on the ball, ready to answer the call.
It takes all sorts to make a brigade - find your place in the team! Whether you want the physical challenge of being a firefighter, or you want to keep your brigade running smoothly, there’s a role where you can make a difference.
Volunteers can choose from these 4 roles:
- Firefighter - You’ll be front-line and hands-on at fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, search and rescue, weather events, natural disasters, and dealing with dangerous substances.
- Medical first responder - A specific, but essential role. Volunteers are trained to focus on medical emergencies when seconds count and lives are at risk.
- Operational support - Protect the firefighters and medical crews that protect the public. You’ll manage traffic and pedestrians, close roads, transport essential equipment, provide lighting, offer refreshments to firefighters and anything else required for a successful, safe operation.
- Brigade support - A vital part of every brigade. Help with day-to-day admin, working with communities to reduce fire risk, events and much more.
Join a team that’ll do great things for your community - and for you.
