Manager of Community Health Charity

We are a community health organisation focused on improving the lives of people living with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and long Covid, through professional support, advocacy and education. We also provide educational opportunities and guidance about ME/CFS for health professionals.
ME/CFS is a serious long-term illness. People living with ME/CFS experience a fluctuating severity of symptoms, and are severely impacted in the activities of daily living. While research has shown this is a biomedical illness, treatments and appropriate support from the health system and whānau continue to lag. We help to fill that gap.
Can you help us to make a difference for the estimated 3,000 people (including 400 young people) living with ME/CFS, in Canterbury and the West Coast, and the many more with long COVID?
Are you keen to…?
- Lead the operational and quality aspects of our organisation proficiently and with flair.
- Support and build a vibrant team of employees and volunteers.
- Develop innovative strategies for sustainable, appropriate services.
- Tell the stories of our ME/CFS community in a way that engages health professionals, funders and the wider community. Be a voice for our organisation and community.
In return, our Manager role offers…
- Flexible days and hours of work - except for a couple of fixed monthly meetings.
- Work from the office and remotely.
- A position that you can bring your passion to – not restricted by the hierarchy of some larger organisations.
If this opportunity appeals and you have relevant experience and/or qualifications for the health and disability sector, we would love to hear from you. Recent testimonies...
- “If I hadn't met with the Nurse who validated my experience of my chronic illness and advocated for me with my GP to obtain a diagnosis, I would not be here. Life had got too hard."
- "I love this organisation, so caring and respectful in everything that they do, and always looking to progress forward."
Did you know?
People with ME/CFS, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and long COVID have a reduced level of functionality that means they cannot complete normal activities of daily living.
An additional burden is that doing too much physically or mentally can trigger Post-Exertional Malaise – a worsening of symptoms that can last for days or more.
Many people with ME/CFS are house or bed bound, are unable to work, and do not have access to adequate financial, home and mobility supports through the welfare and health systems.
