Join the Board of Highbury Community House

Help shape the future of a much-loved Birkenhead community organisation

Highbury Community House is seeking up to two new Board members and is inviting expressions of interest from people who would like to contribute their skills, experience and ideas to the future of our community house.

For 45 years, Highbury Community House has been part of the fabric of the Birkenhead community. Originally established through the 1979 Birkenhead Community Project, the House was created as a place where local people could connect, participate in community activities and access support.

Since 1990, Highbury House has operated from 110 Hinemoa Street, the former local police station, complete with its historic wooden jail cells!

Today, the House continues that original spirit. Our beautiful villa is a vibrant hub where people of all ages come together to learn, share, connect and grow.

About the opportunity

We are looking for up to two community-minded people to join our Board and help guide the future direction of Highbury Community House.

We are particularly interested in hearing from someone with social media, marketing, communications or community engagement experience, as we see an opportunity to strengthen how we promote Highbury House, tell our story and connect with the wider community.

Relevant experience might include:

• Social media strategy and content
• Facebook, Instagram or other digital platforms
• Marketing and promotion of community activities
• Building community awareness and engagement
• Storytelling and communicating the impact of our work
• Developing our online presence and profile

However, this is not a requirement.

We are open to hearing from anyone who feels they could make a positive contribution to the Board. We value a diversity of skills, perspectives and experiences, and may be looking for different strengths across the two appointments.

You might bring experience in areas such as governance, community development, finance, fundraising, communications, law, business, property, events, strategic planning or simply a strong connection to and understanding of our local community.

• Are passionate about supporting a resilient, vibrant and thriving community

Board or governance experience would be helpful, but is not essential.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who are genuinely interested in our community, willing to contribute and excited about helping Highbury House continue to grow and develop.
