Join SO/EN design collective

Our work spans community-led design, housing, education, sustainability, research, and regenerative thinking, bringing together design expertise with a commitment to meaningful change. We're reimagining how design services are delivered by creating a practice that puts people, communities, and the environment first. As Treasurer, your expertise will help ensure that great design can reach those who need it most and that our impact continues to grow for future generations.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a values-aligned Treasurer to join our Board and help guide the financial stewardship of a growing charitable organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your financial expertise to an innovative social enterprise model that combines:

  • Pro-bono community projects
  • Subsidised nonprofit work
  • Revenue-generating projects that are reinvested into charitable outcomes

Your role will help ensure that SO/EN remains financially sustainable while expanding its impact and creating meaningful change through architecture and design.

Responsibilities

Working closely with the Chair and Board, you will:

  • Provide strategic financial leadership to the Board.
  • Monitor the financial health and sustainability of SO/EN.
  • Present financial reports and insights at Board meetings.
  • Support the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls and governance processes are in place.
  • Assist the Board in identifying and managing financial risks.
  • Support compliance with Charities Services reporting and statutory obligations.
  • Work with accountants, auditors and professional advisers as required.
  • Help ensure financial resources are used effectively to advance SO/EN's charitable purpose.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and long-term organisational sustainability.

Highly Desirable

  • Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with charities, incorporated societies, trusts, or social enterprises.
  • Governance, trustee, or board experience.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand charity reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting grant-funded or donor-funded organisations.

We'd love to hear from you. Join a passionate team of architects, educators and changemakers, gain valuable governance and leadership experience, expand your professional network, and help shape an innovative organisation from the ground up. Most importantly, you'll play a meaningful role in making design expertise more accessible and using architecture as a force for lasting positive impact.
