Victim Support New Zealand Incorporated | Manaaki Tāngata Aotearoa Manatōpu is seeking an experienced and values-driven leader with strong financial expertise to join our National Board.

The Role

We are seeking a new co-opted Board member for a one-year term, commencing on 22 November following our AGM, with the opportunity to continue as a co-opted member beyond the initial term.  The successful applicant will automatically be the Board Treasurer and Chair of the Audit, Finance, Investments and Committee.  The person will bring strong financial capability to complement the skills and experience of our existing Board.

As an officer, you will provide governance, helping to guide the vision and strategic direction of the organisation, safeguard our reputation and sustainability, and ensure we fulfil our core purpose.

You will join a committed and skilled Board, working collectively to ensure we remain an active, informed, independent and involved governance body, as set out in our Constitution.

What you will do

Together with fellow officers and the Chair, you will:

• Provide the Board with assurance that there are sufficient financial resources in place to support the strategy and direction of the organisation.
• Ensure that budgets are controlled in accordance with the decisions of the Board, the governing documentation and statutory and legal requirements.
• Ensure that appropriate financial controls and systems are in place and adhered to and that there are effective policies relating to finance, reserves, insurance, risk, trading and investment and that these align with MT-VS’s values.
• Bring a strong financial lens to Board discussions, including the ability to interpret financial statements, budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
• Provide constructive challenge and ask the right questions to support sound financial decision-making and organisational sustainability.
• Safeguard the organisation through robust governance, compliance and risk management.
• To formally present the annual accounts at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and other formal events.
• Act always in the best interests of the organisation, upholding our values and reputation.

We are looking for someone with:

• A strong understanding of financial governance, risk and organisational sustainability.
• The confidence and experience to critically assess financial information, identify key risks and ask insightful and constructive questions.
• Strong financial acumen and experience interpreting financial statements, budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
• Governance and/or senior leadership experience, ideally within a medium to large organisation.
• Strategic thinking and the ability to contribute and make an impact at Board level.
• A commitment to integrity, transparency and the long-term strength of the organisation.
• A passion for making a difference for people across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Professional accounting or finance qualifications would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate significant financial governance and commercial experience.
