Hutt Valley Women’s Refuge - Volunteer Social Media and Communications Advisor

Hutt Valley Women’s Refuge is seeking a passionate and skilled volunteer to lead our social media presence and support our digital fundraising efforts.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in social media management who wants to contribute their skills to a meaningful community cause. You will help raise awareness of family violence, strengthen our community engagement, and support fundraising initiatives that enable us to provide vital services to women and children.
Why This Role Matters
Each year, Hutt Valley Women’s Refuge provides essential support to approximately 700 women and children affected by family violence. A strong and consistent online presence helps us educate our community, advocate for change, and generate funds for services and resources that are not covered by government contracts.
Your contribution will directly support our ability to keep women and children safe and help them rebuild their lives.
The Role
Working alongside our Operations Manager and a designated Board member, you will:
- Manage and maintain our Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn channels
- Create, schedule, and publish engaging content
- Plan and deliver digital fundraising campaigns
- Monitor engagement and channel performance
- Identify emerging social media trends and opportunities
- Provide recommendations to enhance our online presence and audience reach
- Ensure all content aligns with our communications strategy and social media safety protocols
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience managing Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Initiative, creativity, and the ability to work independently
- An interest in supporting women and children affected by family violence
- Confidence working within a sensitive and safety-focused environment
Time Commitment
Approximately 2 to 3 hours per week, with occasional additional time required during fundraising campaigns or special projects.
