Trustee for Charitable Trust

The Hāpai Foundation was formed in 2019 as a result of the amalgamation of two other organisations working in the intellectual disability sector.  It is based in Christchurch and its focus the past five years has been the development and roll out of the Hāpai Access Card across New Zealand.  The Hāpai Access Card is currently being made a legal entity and will overtake the Foundation, whose purpose is being dissolved.

   

The Hāpai Access Card is based on the very successful UK Nimbus Access Card, providing a disabled person with a card that provides evidence of the barriers they face when engaging in the community. 

Today in New Zealand there are nearly 6,000 cardholders in the community, supported by many well-known NGO's and over 300 businesses and venues nationwide. 

Currently the Hāpai Board has seven Trustees who meet monthly in person and via video on the second Tuesday of the month. They are supported by a paid Executive Manager who has a staff of four part time and voluntary staff. 

Operational funding is received via card sales, business on-boarding fees, grants and  donations. 

The Board's Strategic Plan is viewed as a living document and is reviewed regularly. The current plan is attached.  

The Hāpai Access Card is building momentum with the development of accessible e-ticketing in New Zealand at large venues across the country. The Board is looking for members who are:

• connected into the disability sector in Auckland or Wellington, or
• has experience with national marketing campaigns, or
• has worked with large venues or ticketing companies. 

These additional skills would be valued on the board and would add to our skill set.
