Volunteer Board Treasurer – New Zealand Film Collaborators

Location: Wellington (Hybrid/Remote options available)
Commitment: Approximately 6–10 hours per month

About Us

New Zealand Film Collaborators is a volunteer-led, for-purpose, community film production studio dedicated to making Aotearoa's screen industry more accessible, inclusive, and collaborative. We connect emerging and established filmmakers, remove barriers to participation, and create opportunities for learning, networking, and creative collaboration.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and financially capable individual to join our Board as Treasurer and help guide the organisation through its next stage of growth.

About the Role

The Treasurer is a governance position responsible for providing financial oversight and strategic advice to the Board. This role is not responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping but works alongside the Chair, Board members, and external financial professionals to ensure NZFC remains financially sustainable, transparent, and accountable.

The Treasurer plays an important role in helping the Board understand the organisation's financial position and supporting sound decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic financial advice to the Board.
• Review and present regular financial reports.
• Monitor budgets, cash flow, and financial performance.
• Support the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
• Ensure appropriate financial controls and risk management practices are in place.
• Assist with grant and funding financial reporting.
• Support compliance with relevant New Zealand legislation and reporting requirements.
• Liaise with external accountants or financial advisors as required.
• Contribute as an active and engaged member of the Board.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Strong financial literacy and the ability to interpret financial reports.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, or financial management.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• High levels of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
• A commitment to good governance and ethical decision-making.

Previous experience as a Treasurer is welcome but not essential.

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be beneficial:

• Accounting or finance.
• Charity or not-for-profit governance.
• Xero or similar accounting software.
• Grant funding and reporting.
• Risk management.
• Board or committee experience.
