Cancer Society

Key Functions and responsibilities:

Provide social support in the client’s home  

To offer a listening ear to clients that are impacted by cancer  

This role is an opportunity to check in with clients as to their presentations on the day that may identify issues, or just an update to be fed back to the Supportive Care Co-ordinator either by report or, if need be contact the SCC by phone if more urgent.  

Suggesting low level support such as trying some self-care strategies, keeping clients updated with what’s on at the Cancer Society, reminding clients Services that are available through the cancer Society. 

Be able to write clear concise reports (template provided) to the Supportive Care Co-ordinator or if more urgent a call to the Co-ordinator directly.  To provide short term home assistance when needed during or post-surgery/treatment that is not funded through Te Whatu Ora or WINZ. 

Provide specific packages of care as outlined in the Care Plan.  

These tasks can include basic cleaning in the home, vacuuming, dishes, hanging out washing, changing the bedding, assistance with meal prep. Home assistance can also include gardening and mowing lawn if not funded by DHB/Winz/ ACC
