Bureau interviewer
Your role as an interviewer is about helping people to help themselves. We do not tell clients what to do. We help by providing information, options and giving people confidence to evaluate these and take action. We believe people have the ability to help themselves – some people may come to us in vulnerable situations but they are not powerless or without mana. You are not expected to know everything. The key skills are to listen carefully, ask lots of questions and be able to research. We cover such a vast range of issues our volunteers really have to have fantastic researching and communication skills. We also have to have great listening skills because one of our best assets is our ability to give our clients time to talk things through. As an interviewer you will encounter a wide range of people. People from all walks of life come to the CAB for information and advice. We help clients without judging them. We assist people regardless of their: • issue or problem • level of literacy • physical or mental ability • demographic profile (age, gender, ethnicity) • income • geographic location
