Board Member (Trustee)

Mount Tabor Trust

Want to help build a community where everyone belongs?

Mount Tabor Trust is part of the L’Arche International family – a worldwide movement built on the radical belief that people with and without intellectual disabilities are better together. Our community in Rodney and West Auckland has been living this out for many years, and we’re looking for warm-hearted people to help guide our next chapter.

We are a well-established charitable trust with an income in excess of $3m, predominantly from Ministry of Health contracts, and net assets exceeding $1m. Alongside Mount Tabor is a sister community in Kapiti and we share a deep, enduring connection with the wider international movement.

Like many not-for-profits, the past few years have asked a lot of us – and our community has met every challenge with resilience, spirit, and grace. We’re now in an exciting moment: poised to grow stronger physically, financially, and spiritually. To help shape that future, we’re inviting a small number of new Board Members to join us.

We’d love to hear from you if you bring any of the following – though we value heart and presence as much as credentials:

Consequently, additional Board Members are sought who may possess one or more of the following:

A genuine warmth for people – a willingness to share meals, celebrate together, and meet people as they are;

Governance experience in the not-for-profit or community sector;

Financial or legal expertise;

Experience in the disability sector;

Fundraising or social enterprise know-how;

Strategic thinking and a passion for community;

Wide-ranging networks, ideally across West Auckland and Rodney.

The Board meets monthly, either online or in person in Henderson, with meetings typically lasting 1.5–2 hours. We also warmly encourage attendance at community events, shared meals, and celebrations throughout the year – these are where the real magic happens.

This is a voluntary role – but what you’ll receive in return is genuinely hard to put into words. Governance at Mount Tabor is warm, grounding, and often joyful. You’ll be part of a community that discovers and celebrates the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities every single day. Board members regularly tell us it’s one of the most meaningful things they’ve done.

We actively welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life. Our community is built on an unshakeable belief in inclusivity, and – above all – belonging.

If this sounds like you, we’d genuinely love to have a conversation. Please send a covering letter and CV to Michael at [email protected]
