Ko wai mātou – About us: Abbeyfield provides warm, family style homes where older people can live independently while enjoying companionship and a strong sense of community. Each Abbeyfield house is supported by a local volunteer committee whose care and dedication help create the welcoming environment our residents call home.

He aha te tūranga – About the role: We are looking for an organised and reliable person to join our volunteer committee as Secretary. This role supports the smooth running of the house by coordinating meetings, managing records, and ensuring clear communication within the committee.

What’s involved? Preparing meeting agendas and supporting documents with the Chair. Taking clear and accurate minutes and sharing them with the committee. Maintaining and filing important documents and records. Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence. Keeping committee contact details up to date. Supporting compliance with reporting requirements. Attending regular committee meetings and contributing to the effective governance of the house.

Ko wai koe – About you: Well organised with strong attention to detail. Confident taking clear and accurate meeting minutes. Good written communication skills. Comfortable managing documents and records. Able to work collaboratively as part of a committee. Understanding of meeting procedures is helpful but not essential. ** Additional information** The recruitment process will involve: • An interview with the committee • Background check: An MOJ check is required because the role involves access to a home for vulnerable older adults and oversight for staff working in that setting.

In return, you will gain purpose, connection, and the satisfaction of helping older residents live comfortably and confidently in a home that feels like family. If this resonates with you, we would love to hear from you.
