Marketing Coordinator
About CESA
Conservation Engineering Society of Aotearoa (CESA) is a charitable NGO dedicated to protecting and restoring Aotearoa's natural heritage by making technology more accessible for conservation organisations and communities. We need your help to make that happen! We work alongside landowners, NGOs, community groups, and local authorities to deliver meaningful environmental outcomes across New Zealand.
The Opportunity
This is an unpaid volunteer role. As our Marketing Coordinator, you'll be the voice and visual storyteller behind CESA's public presence. Working closely with our Marketing Manager, committee officers, and project leads, you'll create and share content that brings our conservation engineering work to life for the wider public. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing CESA's social media platforms including planning, scheduling, and publishing posts aligned with our organisational strategy
- Capturing and editing photos and videos from community events, field work, meetings, and conservation activities
- Proactively identifying and visiting locations, events, or project activities to generate relevant and engaging content
- Writing clear, engaging captions and posts that communicate impact, technical initiatives, and conservation outcomes in an accessible way
- Ensuring all content reflects CESA's values, professionalism, and conservation engineering focus
- Monitoring comments and messages, responding appropriately, and encouraging positive engagement with followers
- Collaborating with committee officers and project leads to gather information and translate it into public-facing content
- Maintaining an organised digital archive of photos, videos, and media assets for future use
The Impact
Every post you publish and every story you tell helps connect the wider public to the conservation work happening on the ground across Aotearoa. From developing new pest control tools to drone-aided habitat restoration, your content will inspire communities, attract partners, and grow the movement behind CESA's mission. Without people sharing these stories, this work goes unseen - with you in this role, it doesn't.
Who We're Looking For
We'd love to hear from you if you're creative, proactive, and passionate about conservation. Specifically, we're looking for someone with:
- Experience managing social media accounts or creating digital content (preferred)
- A qualification in Marketing, Communications, Media, Design, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred)
- Basic photography and video editing skills (desirable)
- Strong copywriting and storytelling ability
- Comfort attending events and engaging with community members
- A self-motivated, independent working style
- Respect for Maori knowledge and community-led conservation
What to Expect
This is a fully remote, unpaid volunteer role - you supply your own computer and internet connection. A minimum of 6 hours per month is required to attend monthly meetings/workshops, with additional time worked independently to complete agreed tasks. Hours are open to discussion and designed to fit around your schedule. Please note this role also requires occasional attendance at community events or field activities to capture content, and you will need to supply your own basic content capture equipment such as a smartphone or camera.
Why You'll Love It
- Hone your marketing skills with a CESA-provided Canva Pro subscription
- Build a real portfolio of conservation-focused content
- Flexible arrangements that fit your life
- Be part of a purpose-driven, collaborative team making a real difference for Aotearoa's environment
