Tour Guides will enrich the experience of visiting The Arts Centre by providing insider information and in-depth knowledge about the site, adding to its image as a welcoming creative place. Guides will passionately promote the institution by offering information about the site, operations, programmes and history of The Arts Centre and the city as they guide visitors around.
Attributes and skills:

Guides should be personable and have a positive attitude. They must feel comfortable chatting to strangers of all ages and backgrounds, and know how to make all visitors feel welcome. They should be confident working unsupervised, be punctual and organised.

Guides should have the ability to learn, retain and explain key information about The Arts Centre as well as the city. Guides must be comfortable answering complex questions.

Guides must recognise the importance of biculturalism in Aotearoa New Zealand and be prepared to learn to pronounce te reo Māori names and greetings, basics of tikanga Māori, and The Arts Centre’s cultural narrative.

Guides must have respect and a sense of responsibility towards The Arts Centre’s heritage buildings.
Experience and knowledge:
No previous experience is required but would be most helpful. Previous knowledge of The Arts Centre, arts and culture is advantageous, but an interest in history and culture must be a given.
