Volunteering at Silverstream Reserve

Since 2006 the Silverstream Reserve Volunteer Group, who meet three times a week to work in the reserve, have dedicated thousands of hours to the native restoration and protection of Silverstream through their planting, plant maintenance, weed control and predator control efforts. As a volunteer there is a great variety of jobs, and something to suit everyone. Volunteering at Silverstream its about having fun, connecting with others, and enjoying the beautiful environment of the reserve.

Silverstream Reserve has large areas of establishing native plantings, unique wetland and dryland habitats and a clear, spring-fed stream running through both the East and West portions of the reserve. The stream is home to the native tuna (eel) and an establishing kōura population. Such unique biodiversity features make Silverstream Reserve a community asset that is rare in the Canterbury district. The reserve is regularly used by the local community as a recreational reserve for walking, exercising dogs, picnicking, horse riding, mahinga kai gathering and educational activities.
