With My Garden Spot - Porirua East, you can take care of your very own garden patch at the Awatea Community Garden in Ranui Heights. It's a simple, flexible way to grow kai (food), learn new skills, and contribute to a greener, healthier neighbourhood. Perfect for individuals, whanau/families, schools, community groups, or anyone who wants to reconnect with the whenua and give back to the local area.
What you'll do: As a Garden Spot Keeper, you'll be responsible for your own section of the community garden. Your tasks might include:
Weeding and general garden upkeep Planting vegetables, herbs, flowers or natives Watering, mulching, and harvesting kai Removing rubbish or debris Reporting any damage or vandalism Sharing ideas to improve the space Supporting seasonal planting days and community working bees (if you're keen!)
No green thumb required - just a bit of time, care, and community spirit.
What you'll need:
A willingness to show up and tend your garden spot Enthusiasm to learn, share, and grow with others
How it works: We'll meet you onsite, walk through the space, and help you pick your spot. After that, you're free to garden at your own pace - solo, with friends, or as a whanau.
