Youth Search & Rescue - Help train the next generation of volunteers!
We are on the hunt for volunteer instructors to help deliver our 2025 (and beyond!) programme for our rangatahi (ages 14 - 17) Instruction takes place in the classroom, on site with sector partners or in the great outdoors. We provide all the lesson plans and resources needed to ensure you are delivering a great learning experience for our students.
Our programme runs from February to September, with a final 5-day end of year exercise that runs in December.
We would love to hear from you if you have skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Education
- Leadership
- Outdoor Education
- Emergency response experience (FENZ, Police, Emergency Management, St Johns, Emergency Radio, Surf Lifesaving, Coastguard)
There is flexibility within the programme to suit your skills and availability OR join us and become a regular instructor for the duration of the programme
Whatever your commitment, your contribution will help shape the future of search and rescue and emergency management through working alongside and influencing incredible young people to make a lasting impact and create a safer, more resilient future for all.
Coromandel is a unique place, and as such we have YSAR 'hubs' based in Ngatea, Whangamata and Tairua.
Requirements for this opportunity:
- Experience in outdoor education, emergency management or search and rescue is preferred.
- Ability to engage with and inspire young people.
- Familiarity with online environments like Microsoft Teams would be an advantage (or a willingness to learn)
- Full Drivers licence
As you will be engaging with children, police vetting is also a requirement.
