Warm water exercise supervisor
Warm Water Exercise Group supported by Volunteer Nelson
Your job is to
- be at the hospital in time to pick up the key to the pool
- take money from the exercise participants
- put out the necessary pool toys
- watch the participants as they are exercising
- render assistance or get help if needed
- make sure the participants sit for 15 minutes and drink water before leaving
- mop any water off the floor
- lock up and return the key
Currently our session runs from 11am to 12pm on a Tuesday.
We need to have two exercise supervisors for each session, one outside the pool ready to call the crash team if necessary, and the other inside the pool ready to give physical support if needed. (This hasn't happened yet).
You would be covering for one of the volunteers if they are sick or need time off, so your commitment would be one or possibly two days a month, not every week. If you are available during school holidays that would be useful. We wouldn't need you during the long summer holiday as the pool is closed.
You need to have a mobile phone, and it would be good if you are also comfortable with email.
The benefit to doing this is that you can see that the pool exercise helps the participants to increase mobility and fitness and reduce pain. Most of them are also friendly and sociable and take an interest in the lives of others.
Once a year we have a lunch in a cafe for the volunteers.
