About Us Auckland Puppy Rescue (APR) is a registered charity relying on donations and grants, run solely by volunteers committed to rescuing puppies in need, desexing to control the number of unwanted puppies being born and rehoming all puppies that come into our care.

APR is run by a small group of trustees and volunteers who each contribute valuable skills to ensure the charity’s success. We work collaboratively and communicate regularly and are always there to support our fellow volunteers if they need it.

**Being an APR Foster **

With APR, we’re committed to ensuring our Fosters are ‘supported all the way’. We provide everything that you will need to care for one of our puppies (crate, food, bedding and cover all expenses).

As new puppies are brought into the charity, we look for suitable Fosters to care for them. Some puppies are quite young and have siblings, in these cases those puppies would typically only be fostered in pairs, though most of the time puppies need to be fostered individually. We never know how long a puppy will need to stay in foster care, but we help our Foster families with holiday cover and getting puppy sitters if needed.

What’s involved:

  • Feeding – this may be as often as 3 times a day with very young puppies
  • Toileting – toilet training if great and you will be provided guidance on this
  • Socialisation – it’s important that puppies are safely exposed to a wide range of environments and people
  • Puppy cuddles! – well-adjusted puppies need lots of affection and time with humans to make them good pets and increase their chances of finding forever homes
  • Vet visits – you will occasionally need to take the puppies to vet visits (these are organised and paid for by APR)
  • Meet and greets – occasionally you’ll need to take puppies to meet potential adopters though the APR volunteer network can support you with this
  • Events – occasionally APR puppies are needed at events, your help to get them there and back is appreciated

About You You’ll get an enormous sense of satisfaction from fostering puppies in need. APR cannot rescue puppies if we do not have our fosters – you’ll play a critical role in saving the lives of abandoned and neglected puppies. You’ll rewarded knowing that you have made a difference.

You will also:

  • love puppies and want to be actively involved
  • be responsible and alert us to any concerns as quickly as possible
  • proactively communicate to get puppies to vet appointments and other commitments

You do not need to own your own home, but you will need the permission of your landlord if you rent. All potential Fosters homes undergo a property inspection to ensure APR puppies are going into a safe and nurturing environment.
