The Opportunity: The Network Trust seeks a passionate and experienced individual to serve as the Chair of our Board of Trustees. As Chair, you will provide the organisation leadership, strategic direction, and governance oversight. You will be responsible for guiding the board in fulfilling its governance duties, ensuring the Network Trust meets its objectives, and expanding its reach and influence. The role offers a rewarding opportunity to shape the future of the organisation and contribute to the broader health system's efforts to support individuals affected by head and neck cancer.

Term: The Chair position is a 2-year commitment on a part-time basis, with the board convening a minimum of six times per year. In addition to chairing board meetings, the Chair will lead the Annual General Meeting (AGM), participate in strategy days, and work closely with health partners and the wider head and neck cancer clinical community to strengthen our organisation's relationships and impact.

Role of the Chair: The Chair is responsible for leading the board and ensuring it functions effectively to achieve the organisation's strategic objectives. This includes fostering collaboration, providing guidance, and ensuring the organisation adheres to its governance principles and legal obligations.

Key responsibilities of the Chair include: Leading and directing the Board of Trustees to ensure the organisation remains focused on its mission. Chairing board meetings in a manner that promotes effective decision-making and governance. Collaborating with board members and health partners to develop and implement strategies that enhance the organisation's impact. Representing the organisation to external stakeholders, including government agencies, healthcare providers, and the wider community. Ensuring the board fulfils its governance duties, including financial oversight, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Fostering a positive and inclusive board culture, encouraging teamwork, open communication, and mutual respect. Supporting the recruitment, development, and retention of diverse and skilled board members. Advocating for the organisation and raising awareness about head and neck cancer and the Network Trust's services.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: Experience serving on a Board of Trustees or similar governing body, ideally in the nonprofit sector. Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Passion for and commitment to the mission of the Network Trust, with knowledge or experience in head and neck cancer or cancer-related services. A thorough understanding of nonprofit governance principles and best practices. The ability to commit the time and energy necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.

Engagement with Māori and Pasifika Communities: The Chair will actively engage with Māori and Pasifika communities to ensure that the Network Trust's services are accessible and relevant. This includes building meaningful relationships, consulting with community leaders, and incorporating cultural perspectives into the organisation's strategic planning and service delivery.

Cultural Safety and Awareness: As Chair, you will champion cultural safety within the organisation, fostering an environment where individuals from all cultural backgrounds feel respected and understood. You will promote awareness of cultural protocols, recognise the historical and systemic factors affecting health outcomes, and work to address disparities in healthcare access.

Partnerships and Collaborations: The Chair will lead efforts to develop partnerships with Māori and Pasifika health providers, community organisations, and cultural institutions. These partnerships will enhance the Network Trust's ability to serve diverse populations and ensure that our services are aligned with the needs of those most affected by head and neck cancer.
