Dance & Arts Therapy NZ (DTNZ) is currently seeking a Treasurer to join our Advisory Board. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about our charity's kaupapa to celebrate and support rangatahi and tangata whaikaha (youth and adults with disabilities) and people of all ages grappling with the effects of trauma across Aotearoa through creative arts therapies. Our potential Treasurer will have sound governance experience as a board member or a keen interest in gaining experience working with boards, and have demonstrated skills in financial management, leadership, strategic thinking, and communication.

Treasurer/Advisory Board Member Position Description:

This includes overseeing monthly financial reporting to the board and supporting the office to meet annual audit requirements, deliver annual accounts and advise us on financial matters. Our board meets six times per year face to face, for 90 minutes each meeting. Although we are based in Auckland, this role can be based anywhere in NZ/Aotearoa.

Board Terms

DTNZ advisory board members will serve an initial one-year term. Advisory Board meetings are held bi-monthly. Service on DTNZ’s board of trustees is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs (where applicable) in relation to board members’ duties (and a light lunch catered for meetings). Meetings can be attended remotely for those outside of Auckland.

Our ideal candidate will ideally have many of the following:

● Professional experience with significant leadership accomplishments in business, government, community, philanthropy, law or the not for profit sector

● Demonstrated success as a board member, board chair, or senior executive preferably in the not for profit sector (Chairperson experience or interest in developing this would be welcome)

● A commitment to and understanding of the DTNZ vision, mission and values, and to guiding and supporting organisational innovation and leadership

● Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals

● Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of vulnerable communities

● Experience and understanding of new and developing organisations, in contributing to credibility in the community, with stakeholders and funders.
