We’re looking for volunteers who speak te reo Māori to take part in a 90-minute Inspiring the Future session with ākonga from Far North Kura Kaupapa Māori on Friday 8 November in Kaikohe.

Inspiring the Future is a programme that connects rangatahi with volunteer role models from the world of work. The aim is to broaden career aspirations and challenge stereotypes that can limit potential.

In the Inspiring the Future session, ākonga will ask you questions to try and guess your job. You’ll then reveal your job and pathway alongside a prop or uniform you use or wear in it, and then you have a kōrero with smaller groups of students about your story.

There are two sessions over the day and both will be run in te reo Māori. Mayor Moko Tepania is the MC. You can express interest in one or both.

The event is being hosted at the Mahinga Innovation Centre and ākonga will also get an interactive tour of education providers onsite.

A sausage sizzle will be provided for lunch (dietary requirements will be collected).

Taking part can literally change lives

They can’t be what they can’t see so, no matter what job you do, you’ll help broaden horizons for rangatahi and imagine a future they might never have considered.
