Ko wai mātou - About us:

Hato Hone St John has been serving New Zealanders since 1885. Today, we have nearly 12,000 kaimahi working across Aotearoa to enhance the health and wellbeing of our communities. From responding to 111 calls to supporting people to stay healthy through health education, access and monitoring, we make a life-changing difference every day.

He aha te tūranga - About the role:

Our Op Shop teams do fantastic work in the community selling affordable pre-loved goods, and this helps to fund our essential, lifesaving services and community initiatives.

They have created friendly, supportive community hubs, offering much-needed local services and even help New Zealand to be more environmentally sustainable - more recycling means less landfill!

Maybe you already have retail or customer service experience or perhaps you're looking for an opportunity to learn these skills - either way, we'd love to hear from you.

What's involved?

There's plenty of variety in this role, you could be doing anything from:

  • serving customers
  • cash handling
  • sorting donated goods
  • visual merchandising
  • tidying the store

Ko wai koe - About you:

We are seeking people who can spare 4 hours a week (one half-day shift), ideally for 6 - 12 months.

We're looking for caring individuals, who are over the age of 18 and are keen to give back to their community. Retail experience is great but not essential. If you're keen to learn, enthusiastic and reliable, then we can teach you the skills you need.

Additional information

The recruitment process will involve:

  • an interview with the store manager
  • a criminal record check
  • Volunteer agreement.

Optional: If your role is to involve driving (e.g. donation pick ups) we will also check that you have a current, full NZ Driver License
