Eastern Refuge Society is a member of the National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges. We provide a range of inclusive services that support the wellbeing of all people.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to women, children & whānau, and dedication to the cornerstones of the Women’s Refuge Movement - Parallel development, Collectivism, Feminism & Takatāpui Nurturing Diversity.

Our vision is wāhine and tāne working together to cultivate violence-free families, communities and society, by enhancing the mana of all peoples and upholding our commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from anyone that:

  • is passionate about supporting and empowering women and children, working in the spirit of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and community-led approaches
  • is available to commit to approximately 5 hours per month, including attending a monthly board meeting on weekday evenings (remote friendly)
  • is not disqualified from being an officer for a charitable entity
  • has experience working with Pacific and Māori communities
  • has skills in governance, finance/accounting, or health and safety (preferred but not essential).
