This year we are partnering with the Kaipara Moana Remediation (KMR) programme on their exciting 10 year initiative to restore the health and mauri of the Kaipara Moana (Kaipara Harbour)! We will be co-delivering 3 community planting days around the Kaipara Moana and we would love to have you along!

As the largest harbour in the southern hemisphere, the Kaipara Moana has great ecological, economic and cultural significance. The main driver for this restoration mahi is to reduce the 700,000 tons of sediment flowing into the Kaipara Harbour each year. This sedimentation is highly detrimental to the precious ecosystems that underpin these ecologic, economic and cultural values.

By retiring and planting up old pasture, steep hill slopes, overland flow paths/waterways and wetlands within the catchment, this project is reducing the flow of sediment into the harbour. This is also creating new food and habitat for our native creatures, including threatened species like weweia (New Zealand Dabchick) and pāteke (Brown Teal), as well as protecting rare stands of remnant coastal forest and sand dunes.

Transport can be provided from Eden Terrace by arrangement. Please contact us via email after registering to reserve a seat
