Volunteer assistant for people with disabilities

Chrome Collective Charitable Trust supported by Volunteering Services

Chrome Collective Charitable Trust have created a space for people with disabilities to come and learn skills that can lead them into a possible work opportunity. Chrome runs a Work Readiness program 3 days a week during school term, we strive to immerse people with disabilities back into the community. The key duties of the volunteer will be to take direction from the program coordinator to carry out certain tasks. Volunteers are to be reliable and show up with a positive, willingness to work attitude and to be helpful around the workshop. Skills and experience needed for this role: previous work with people with disabilities or working as a support worker/care giver. Any skills in craft, sewing, weaving, cooking, paint (art), wood work, upcycling home items, making of items are a great plus point to have. Benefits of volunteering at Chrome is adding work experience to your resume, adding invaluable meaning to the lives of those individuals with disabilities, making a difference and being part of something bigger. Chrome creates a safe space for people with disabilities to come and learn and be among their peers, having a place where they belong, being treated with kindness, love and respect. In summer we tend to go to the local pools for swimming in the afternoon this is part of our active session because being active is important. From time to time we also go on excursions to the library or a museum etc. A volunteer might be asked to transport some of the program participants if the other vehicles are full. So it is beneficial to have a drivers license. As a standard procedure Police Vetting will also be done on a new volunteer, as you will be working with vulnerable individuals we aim to keep everyone safe in our work space.
