Island Sanctuary Role

Island Care

Support conservation efforts on a 500ha pest controlled Island near Great Barrier Island. By volunteering you will be helping to protect and enhance the public infrastructure on the island and care for the increasing level of native biodiversity.

Your key volunteer duties may include;

  • Checking and servicing trap lines.

  • Cleaning and maintaining island assets.

  • Monitoring biodiversity.

  • Assisting the ranger with day to day tasks.

  • Gardening and ground maintenance.

About You;

  • Most jobs are physically demanding so good fitness is required.

  • You will be comfortable with isolation and confident working independently.

  • Don't worry if you haven't got a conservation background. Gardening, reporting, cooking, computer experience and a freindly smile are all great assets and we are happy to work with your strengths.

What we offer;

  • You will be provided with private sleeping cabin [bedding/pillow not included] and use of a Shared facilities.

  • An average of 4 hours of volunteer work is expected per weekday, however this is dependent on the tasks and projects you are involved in and is generally pretty flexible.

  • The accommodation also makes a great base to explore the neighboring Great Barrier Island.
