Connecting People With Parks - Roy Clements Treeway
Our Connecting People with Parks programme is an initiative between CVNZ and the Auckland Council. The programme seeks to welcome biodiversity back to central Auckland and provides an opportunity for people to connect with others, whilst caring for our urban parks. This programme has been operating for the past nine years, and over that time our volunteers have helped us plant well over 30,000 plants and have cleared over 70,000 m2 of weeds! In addition to this, volunteers have helped us tackle a variety of tasks including track maintenance and litter clean ups.
Every other Tuesday from 8:30am to 3:00pm, Conservation Volunteers travel to a different park within Auckland where they undertake a variety of activities. Depending on the time of year, activities may include planting, plant propagation, weed control, and litter clean-ups. Every week volunteers are led by an experienced team leader, who aims to teach volunteers about all aspects of conservation, including plant and weed identification, planting techniques, native fauna identification and more. Each park has its own unique fauna and flora and the conservation challenges for each area vary, providing volunteers with an opportunity to learn something new each week.
For this volunteer day, you are welcome to meet us onsite or meet at our office at 07:50am at 10 New North Rd Eden Terrace to get a ride in our van. Seats are limited in our vans, so you MUST contact us at [email protected] or call 0800 567 686 to reserve a seat.
