Ingage Volunteer - Working with tamariki in the care of Oranga Tamariki

Immerse Charitable Trust - Ingage programme

What is Ingage?

Ingage is a therapeutic, activity-based programme for tamariki and rangatahi (ages 5+) in the care of Oranga Tamariki. The programme runs every second Saturday during the school term (five sessions per term, 20 per year) from 9:00am–3:30pm.

Each day provides opportunities for tamariki to:

  • Have their sensory needs met in a safe and supportive environment
  • Engage in the therapeutic TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention)
  • Build connection, confidence, and wonderful memories TBRI® is an evidence-based, trauma-informed model designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children - and it forms the foundation of everything we do at Ingage.

What is a Buddy?

As a Buddy, you’ll be paired with one tamaiti or rangatahi for the day, building trust and connection through shared activities. You’ll offer gentle encouragement, praise, and support throughout the programme — helping your buddy feel safe, seen, and valued.

All volunteers receive training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) to equip them with practical tools for connection and co-regulation.

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Are reliable, committed, and consistent- our tamariki have often experienced significant change and uncertainty, so regular attendance helps build trust, safety, and connection.
  • Are passionate about supporting tamariki and helping them thrive.
  • Can engage in hands-on and actively engage in activities and relationship-building.
  • Can communicate very well in English (English does not need to be your first language though).
  • Will promptly communicate and let us know if they are unable to attend.

If you can show up wholeheartedly each session, you’ll have the privilege of building beautiful, lasting relationships and seeing real growth in the tamariki you support.

Programme Details:

  • Based in Albany (North Shore, Auckland)
  • All meals, snacks, t-shirts, transport, and activity entry fees are provided
  • Buddies travel together with the group to our activity locations each session
