Key duties - feed, water, and provide a little friendly interaction with the cats. Skills and experience required? - nothing in particular! We need reliable local people (with reliable transport), who like cats and feel some empathy for 'homeless' ones! The Community Cat Coalition supports people caring for community cats across Auckland. Our 'big thing' is de-sexing - humanely managing and reducing Auckland's stray cat population. Volunteers derive a lot of satisfaction from being very important to the well-being and happiness of some needy, innocent animals. They also have opportunities to connect with like-minded people through morning teas with other volunteers and via our whatsapp group chat. Colony feeders are hugely important to the Community Cat Coalition. They are who allow others to concentrate on reducing the number of stray cats by de-sexing.

The colony managers will show you what to do, and are always available if you have any questions or issues.

Time required

We are looking for someone to cover our regular volunteers when unavailable. Especially the next few fridays. The time required at each feeding site is generally no more than 10 minutes. It's best if the cats can be fed in the early evening - you are more likely to see and interact with them, and less of the food gets eaten by birds - but this is not essential.

Reimbursement

Our lovely volunteers usually supply some of the food themselves (a few cans of wet food and a bag or 2 of dry food each week) but we supplement this with food donated to CCC whenever possible.

Requirements

Drivers licence (Restricted)

Volunteering is easier if you live or work locally. Volunteers need to be 18 or over, reliable (as in prepared to turn up on their rostered day even if it's raining), and have reliable transport. It certainly helps if you like cats, and have empathy for those who are 'homeless' through no fault of their own.
