Animal Food Preparation Assistant
Natureland Wildlife Trust supported by Volunteer Nelson
At Natureland we have a wide range of both exotic and native animals with varying dietary needs to cater for. We are looking for wonderful volunteers to help us on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday mornings to assist our keepers by preparing the animals meals and tidying up after.
We are looking for people that are reliable, caring and that can commit to one shift per week. The shift times are 8.15am - 11.30am (approx.).
Duties:
- Cutting up the animal's food, (vegetables, fruit).
- Weighing the animal's food, (pellets, fruit and vegetables),
- Washing the animals empty food dishes.
Skills: You must be able to safely use sharp knives, have good kitchen hygiene, have the ability to work alone and follow the strict diet sheets. Some of the animals have very specific food requirements therefore the ability to weigh the precise amounts of food is essential.
Training will be provided until you feel you are ready to go at it alone. Staff are never too far away to help when needed. Natureland is a wonderful place to spend your time. We are a close-knit team, and we enjoy having a break together at 11am with all staff and volunteers.
We welcome applicants from all walks of life but please note that our volunteer roles are open to those aged 16 years plus.
