Bay of Islands Vintage Railway

Logo for Bay of Islands Vintage Railway

The Bay of Islands Vintage Railway is the oldest line in North Island, New Zealand. The main station is in Kawakawa, and trains go along SH1 main road (the only place in NZ where you can do this) to the longest curved wooden bridge in the Southern Hemisphere. Gabriel, our steam engine, is the only one of her type left in the world. Our trains run Friday-Sunday every weekend, and every day in school holidays. There are 4 timetabled return runs per operation days - taking about 50 minutes per journey.
