Kaibosh

We are a thriving food rescue organisation in the lower North Island. From our foundation over fifteen years ago as the first dedicated food rescue organisation in Aotearoa, Kaibosh has grown to be an organisation that rescues around 65,000 kilos of good quality surplus food every single month. That’s equivalent to 200,000 meals worth of food for those in our community who are struggling or vulnerable. We have a simple vision – “zero food poverty, zero food waste”, and we work hard to deliver our mission of being the link between the food industry and those that support people in need. We have a dedicated operational team of 30 (12.5 FTE) and an army of amazing volunteers (200) who sort the kai, checking for food safety and quality. Operating out of three bases across the Wellington Region, Pōneke, Pito-one and Paraparaumu, with two food rescue vehicles per site. Behind this work of rescuing and sorting food sits a network of relationships – with food donors, recipient community organisations, funders, donors and all manner of local supporters. Growing this relationship base is essential to growing the impact of the work we do. We have also recently opened a the Kaibosh Kitchen Pito-one, in order to increase the amount of food we can rescue, and are currently investigating second harvest (direct from grower) opportunities.
