St Chads is about people having a good life. From learning life- and work-ready skills to participating in the community and enjoying social interactions, you will find St Chads a special place to pursue your interests. Established in 1982, St Chads supports people with disabilities to gain greater independence, learn and maintain valuable life skills, improve their health and well-being, interact meaningfully with other members of the community and do everyday things in everyday places. We also seek to break down the barriers to social inclusion and change the misconceptions people have about disabilities. The key areas we base our programmes on are: - daily living skills - education and learning - communication - vocational and work experience/skills - recreation, leisure and socialisation - exercise and fitness - independence and choice. Our approach is consistent with the New Zealand Disability Strategy which ‘recognises the equal right of all people with disabilities to live in the community with choices equal to any other’. St Chads also follows the Enabling Good Lives framework. We have about 70 clients and have a team of around 18 employees and we welcome volunteers who support our clients in their sessions or wish to serve as a trustee.
