Cobra Trust

The radio station, Flea.fm (88.2) will change names this year 2022 to Robin.fm. The radio station will support the community who have Mental health conditions addictions or excessive unhealthy behaviours. Mental health in Aotearoa has been deteriorating at an alarming rate across the country and the uncertainty of lockdowns and the spread of new variants of Covid increases the deterioration of one’s well-being significantly. Some have increased certain behaviours such as drinking more alcohol, eating more food or unhealthy food, or relapsing to old behaviours such as smoking. Others substituted gambling in casinos to online gambling. Others adapted (e.g. walked instead of going to the gym or they just forfeited exercise or social gatherings (e.g. can’t swim, go to gym, religious venues, visit family and friends). The radio station also attempts to provide information on how people engage in excessive behaviours to medicate mental health conditions, Consequently, self-medication will worsen mental health (e.g. alcohol is a central nervous system depressant which can exacerbate depression and decrease serotonin responsible for positive moods). To date, we covered sex addiction, loneliness, social anxiety disorder, New Year’s resolutions, relapse prevention and eating disorders. Future topics will likely include information on a variety of depression, suicide prevention, , strategies for self-help and where to get professional help. Helplines and contact details where to get further help and support and document this on our Facebook page (flea.fm) and our website. During the live sessions, we aim to offer people to call and ask questions using helplines that are already in place. There will be also programmes such as bedtime reading, war stories from people who were in a war or a relative passing a story down in the family. The radio will also offer cultural programmes to cater to different ethnic groups and play their music.
