Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wellington is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters New Zealand. We provide a mentoring programme for children and young people aged from 6 to 12 years of age. We match deserving Tamariki with willing, caring adults to defend their potential and “be in their corner”. The ‘Big Brothers, Big Sisters’ (BBBS) youth mentoring programme is based at the NZ Police Station in Lower Hutt, and will match young with old in a bid to provide positive, stable and independent role models. All of our volunteer mentors are police checked, screened, interviewed and trained. They must commit to meeting with their mentees for at least one hour once a week, and also commit to a minimum of one year with the programme.
