Radio Lollipop is an international charity dedicated to providing care, comfort, play and entertainment for sick children in hospitals. Each Volunteer visits children in hospital one evening a week to provide a much-needed escape through fun and play by offering games, crafts or just someone to talk with.
In NZ we are based in Christchurch, Counties Manukau Kidz First Hospital, Starship, Waitakere & Whangarei Hospitals. The "radio" broadcasts live "on air" shows from Christchurch and Starship. We have a select few volunteers trained as presenters.
We are seeking volunteers to make a positive difference in the lives of children in hospital on a regular basis with a minimum commitment of 18 months. Full training will be provided before you visit children on the wards as well as an annual refresher session.
Each volunteer brings their own unique strengths / imaginations to children in hospital. You will need to be adaptable and sensitive to provide times of quiet play and times of more upbeat fun with a wide range of age groups. You will be required to be a team player with a good understanding of hospital and Radio Lollipop expectations. We are also looking for volunteers who are suited to management roles within the team.
All volunteers are required to:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Agree to NZ Police Vetting
- Provide 2 Referee contact details
- Vaccinations be up to date
- Attend an Information Evening
- Attend Training Sessions
Register your interest today to join our vibrant and diverse team of volunteers - giving children in hospital better dreams!
It all starts with an information evening so we can give you a better understanding of Radio Lollipop and what's expected of our volunteers.
Our next Volunteer Intake will be held Feb/March 2022. The Information Evening dates have yet to be confirmed.
The Information Evening sessions are open to anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer. You can attend a session, then apply to volunteer at the branch of your choice.
