Join the YWCA Aotearoa New Zealand National Board Are you passionate about empowering young women and advancing gender equity in Aotearoa New Zealand? The YWCA Aotearoa New Zealand invites applications for two Board Member positions to join our national governance team.
About Us The YWCA Aotearoa New Zealand is part of the global Y movement dedicated to empowering women, young women, and gender-diverse people. We work to foster leadership, amplify voices, and create a more equitable society here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Role We are seeking dedicated individuals to contribute to the strategic governance of our organisation. As a Board Member, you will provide oversight, guidance, and support to advance our mission to tautoko our young wāhine by uplifting them, raising their voices and helping them to create impactful and meaningful change for Aotearoa.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in strategic planning, decision-making, and policy development.
- Attend 80% of monthly online board meetings and actively engage in committee work.
- Attend at least two in-person meetings per year. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
- Act as an ambassador and advocate for the YWCA
- Ensure compliance with the Charities Act 2005 and meet the organisation’s volunteer selection criteria, including police checks.
Who We’re Looking For We welcome applications from individuals who bring diverse experiences, perspectives, and skills including young women and wāhine Māori.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Commitment to the mission and work of the YWCA.
- Knowledge and experience in governance, particularly in one or more of the following areas:
- Policy
- Finance
- Advocacy
- Strategy
- A proven track record in leadership and community engagement.
- Ability to dedicate time to attending online Board and committee meetings, as well as organisational events.
We are especially seeking experienced board members with a strong understanding of governance and strategic oversight. We also welcome younger applicants and those new to governance who are eager to develop their skills in a supportive environment.
